Zeiss Ultra Primes
Zeiss Ultra Prime lenses were introduced in 1998 as the next generation standard speed lens, and given their qualities these are still the workhorses of the Dutch film industry. Besides their good performance in terms of contrast and resolution, these lenses are known for their well-controlled distortion and accaptable way of breathing.
With the Ultra Prime lenses Carl Zeiss introduced Floating Elements, where lens groups move in relation with each other during focusing to correct image area curvature for better close-up focus setting possibilities compared to previous generation cine lenses.
Besides Floating Elements, Carl Zeiss also introduced genuine Internal Focus. The external position of the lens remains constant for the entire focus range. Instead of moving the internal optical assembly with a large drive mechanism, only small lightweight lens groups in the interior of the lens are moved. This facilitates considerably more sensitive focusing.
Ultra Prime lenses have a wide focal range of prime lenses giving you the flexibility to get the coverage you want. The Ultra Prime lenses are lightweight standard speed lenses that are a perfect optical match to the high speed Master Prime lenses. They have been developed in a cooperation of ARRI and Carl Zeiss.
